Ruth Campbell and Co are Landscape and Urban Designers who create hard-working, adaptable, inclusive spaces which are a joy to use, and add economic and social value to developments.
As a practice we specialise in the design and delivery of external spaces in urban environments. We understand the critical importance of space in the urban context. Our pragmatic approach can bring difficult or unloved spaces back into use, adding value to new and existing developments.
The practice, led by Ruth Campbell, creates high-quality, hard-working and safe spaces which are a joy to use, and which add economic and social value for clients, individuals and communities alike.
Our work is rooted in a deep understanding of the relationship between people and place, and the potential impact of landscape on well-being and mental health. Our approach is highly inclusive, collaborative and consultative, working with a broad range of stakeholders, including community groups, local councils and the private sector.
From brief development to design and delivery, we put people at the heart of the project, maximising opportunities to add value and delight for all. Playful, contemplative, interactive, our projects are richly varied and designed to suit the needs of a wide range of users.
We never lose sight of creativity and quality, often acting as design champion to ensure that project ambition is realised and that schemes are practical, durable and continue to give value long after completion.

Ruth’s expertise in landscape design is inspired and informed by her belief in its ability to transform our experience.
She has a deep understanding of the relationship between people and place, particularly in urban environments, and is a champion of the positive effects external spaces can have on mental health and well-being.
Ruth relishes diversity and has worked on a wide range of typologies, at a range of scales, for private and public clients and communities.
Ruth’s approach, while commercially astute, puts people at the heart of any project, creating places that are engaging, playful and which support individuals and groups. Her portfolio demonstrates projects which deliver value for clients, users, communities and the wider public alike.
Inclusivity, collaboration and consultation are integral to Ruth’s practice. She studied her research degree at the Helen Hamlyn Centre, one of the world’s leading centres for inclusive design, and she went on to lead the stakeholder consultation for the Commonwealth Institute whilst working at the General Public Agency.
Ruth worked as a specialist consultant to a variety of practices before co-founding Campbell Cadey in 2017. Now, as Ruth Campbell and Co, she is re-focusing her practice to focus on the transformative power of landscape design to address many of the urban realm challenges we face today.
