Alleyns School developed a masterplan for their Dulwich site which looked to transform how the hard, tarmac heavy areas could be richly layered landscapes that support learning, play and community life. Their main desire was to create somewhere for everyone across the site.
The first of what we hope to be many projects with them, was to develop the Early Years and Key Stage 1 outdoor environments. These were transformed into playful and adaptable spaces that encouraged curiosity, independence and year-round use.
The outdoor learning environment has been driven by their strong understanding of early years play, ensuring that all of the big movement early years learning goals are incorporated into a creative and playful environment.
Our next project with Alleyns is to transform their current, unused space into a junior school science garden, where the proposals integrate nature-based learning, imaginative play, child-accessible storage and flexible outdoor classrooms, alongside biodiverse planting designed to soften the campus and foster a stronger connection to nature.
